Assume that all old rubber gaskets need replacement.  They are not there to 
make the diaphragm airtight BUT to act as vibration dampeners.  New 
compliant gaskets in a properly adjusted reproducer will greatly increase the bass 
response and make for more clear sound reproduction.
 
The diamond stylus can be worn down and should be checked with a microscope 
to be sure there is no flat spot or damage that would cause records to wear.
