The lower Ebay fee's is a crock....listing fees are lower but final selling fee's are to increase 63% (if I remember correctly)....... sellers will avoid listing collectibles because they will look for other avenues........the changes are perfect for selling Chinese crap! Her replacement (don't remember the guy's name) says that he is going to lower fees for ebay, AND is going to try to protect buyers from scams. A lot of folks I've known over the years won't go near ebay for fear of being ripped off. > > Hopefully this guy can do what he says. Ebay's auction area has been flat, if not losing ground for a longtime. The article suggested that folks were migrating to other sites and venues. Ebay's been making most of their dough off paypal. Personally, I find myself migrating to Amazon for all kinds of things, including a recent computer part which I needed and couldn't find elsewhere. ;) > > NB: I am NOT endorsing ebay. I'm an old user (10 years), who has not done much there in the past few years...mostly because of cost to sell (added to increased shipping costs), fraud, low sell-through rates, peanut-prices for sellers, etc. Plus being burned myself on purchases...and believe me, I thought I knew all the angles to avoid being burned. LOL > > As far as dropping prices. In my area, there seems to be nascent renewed activity (antique pattern glass). I get a lot of inquiries and made a few sales recently (not on ebay). Just 2 years ago an old friend collector of EAPG (30+ years with glass) said that he thought the whole collecting thing for glass was gone...at least for our lifetime. I believed him...not so sure if I do anymore. ;) > > I suspect that collecting in general, may be like the stock market: there has to be the most negativity (capitulation) before there can be a turn! Kishpaugh, NYS. The Rev has got to be on that list! Apparently he died in the 1960's, a few years before my Pop, the phono collector, who corresponded with him by snailmail. I found a few tediously hand-written letters from the Rev. to Pop, dated in the 1950's. TREASURE! ;) Wish I knew what Pop had written back...other than obviously looking for a Hexaphone which the Rev mentions. > > > ger55 on ebay; ger55 at comcast.net > Victorian Glass Plus! > http://www.tias.com/stores/vgpp > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/glass_antique_and_old/ > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Kuglarb at wmconnect.com > To: phono-l at oldcrank.org > Sent: Monday, January 28, 2008 4:30 PM > Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Orlando Show reports anyone? > > > Dan - I agree with you.
