I wish I were home to check the exact information from
the ID tag but I'm not. At one time I believe our
friend, Al Sefl, was collecting an example of each
variation within each model from the Edison line. I
believe this variation of the Amberola V was one of
the more difficult variations to find. After the fire
at the Edison factory, there were a few Amberola V
cabinets that survived. If my memory is correct, I'll
estimate that 150 to 300 cabinets survived. The
Amberola 30, 50, and 75 were scheduled to be
introduced shortly. To make use of the surviving
Amberola V cabinets, they were equipped with the
mechanism from the Amberola 50 and quickly sold.
It's interesting to note that scarcity does not always
equate to a high value. I imagine that you'd have to
find just the right person that would pay much more
than the typical $500 Amberola V price for my machine.
Finding something like that is what makes collecting
fun. I wish I had Frow's book in front of me. Can
someone provide the dates and number of cabinets that
survived the fire? Thanks, Jerry B.
