It's not a contract until the auction closes, and any seller can end an 
auction early for any reason he wishes.  The contract that's broken is 
between the seller and eBay, but like it's been said, that would be very 
hard to enforce/prove/etc.

It's sad that some people don't see value or honor in doing things by the 
established rules and doing what they say they're going to do.  As far as I 
can tell, most members of this group are just as much more honorable than 
average people as they are more intelligent/generous/supportive in my 
experience.  But when it comes to the unethical 'there's one born every 
minute' types in the world, there are a lot more of them than there are of 
us.
