Edison used pure latex rubber. You can buy the stuff from McMaster Carr. Better choice is the Sorbothane I referenced previously. If the suspension is properly adjusted the crank does not contact the case and should be centered in the hole. It is important to remember that these phonographs were very high tech when they were made. They are not as easy to properly adjust as it would seem.
